(This is a repost from my LiveJournal)
ARGH I’m tired. Got home from the weekend around 6:30 or so tonight (amazingly enough, was like no traffic on 285). Let me tell you this, one of the most surreal things is seeing a hotel that just hours before was overrun with people be dead quiet. That was the feeling last night after the con shut down and we grabbed dinner. Not having to wait 10 minutes for an elevator and even having one waiting for you when coming back from outside was enough to make me go “……..ok, that’s new” after waiting and waiting and waiting for an elevator all weekend.
Not to mention how dead quiet it was this morning when we checked out. Definitely messed with my head a bit after having a dull roar in the background almost all weekend.
For some reason, in these past 3 years I’ve been attending AWA, I’ve taken fewer pictures each year… in ’04 when I first actually attended I was actually a fairly decent shutterbug… last year I didn’t take as many as I’d wanted, but I did take a few… and this year I took a grand total of 3. All of the wifi setup we had in the hotel room. I guess chilling in the retro room or the dealers’ room, or just in our hotel room the entire weekend all but made me go like “uh, dur?” on taking pics.
That said, Anime HELL was great as always, Midnight Madness had one of the funniest parody dubs yet, the Panel OF DOOM, a first for me this year, was thoroughly enjoyable, and staying up til at least 2AM watching old anime with an ever-thinning crowd Saturday night was quite amusing. Oh, and the return of the mecha block was great… even if only me, Mike, and a guy sitting behind me sang along to the Go Nagai openings… Yeah. mazin go? Or something like that.
Actually, probably the coolest moment was sitting down in the Yamato showing and having Amy Howard Wilson, the voice actress for Nova in Star Blazers, sitting on the row in front of me. And of course I’m such a doof and forgot to mention that to my co-worker who’s a Star Blazers fan when I ran by the store today to pick my check up. ^^; Ah well. I’ll let him know tomorrow.
Incidentally, since the wifi setup worked so well this year, I’m going to pick up a Soekris board sometime over this next year to have a much lighter solution for it. And solid state to boot.
Now I need to finish unpacking after dorking around on the ‘net and such for a few hours after getting home… at least 水銀ラヂヲ is up so I have music to listen to.
Definitely was a total blast as usual! Even if the dealers’ room was a little bit sub-par <.< >.>
