“HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR STEAK?”
“MEDIUM RARE!” Peelander-Z pwns.
Anyway, back from the DUR SUMMIT, I mean Anime Weekend Atlanta, after having “a hell of a weekend” (to quote my friend Mike).
Weekend started on Thursday, “Day 0,” when I picked him up at the airport and we meandered around Atlanta for a good few hours until we could check in at the hotel around 3pm. He’s the only person I know that I can take into the Japanese bookstore near my work and -not- be thoroughly confused at everything.
The first highlight of Friday was the Yoko Ishida panel, where I got my copy of the Japanese release of her CD “all of me” signed. She’s cute. =D The highlight of the panel was this dood attempting very poorly to speak Japanese to Ishida-san and totally butchering the question he was asking in the Q&A panel. I laughed. Later in that day was the Peelander-Z concert, followed by ANIME HELL and Midnight Madness, where I finally got to see ReDeath ReDux. It’s even better than the original!
Saturday was great, as my friend Jon finally made it there during the Peelander-Z concert Friday night. Between the mecha video block, Macross in the movie theatre-looking room, the Yoko Ishida concert, and Piano’s first presentation of MAD videos… the day was excellent. The post-con-event fun in the hotel room was great. Karaoke Revolution is amusing. I was screaming into the mic and doing better than if I actually sang along. And Taiko no Tatsujin (aka Taiko Drum Master in the US) is a great game. The anime song mixes are great, and it’s a fun game overall. I’ll probably show it to my dad one of these days, as we both like taiko drumming.
Today started out kinda frantic as we packed everything up so we could be out of the room by noon… which we did handily with time to spare. Then Mike and I wandered around a bit more to wait for Piano’s 2nd panel today. I won a copy of Dennou Emaki, a “definitive” collection of MADs, at the panel. It’s great. He showed it to end the show, then we all played Janken (aka RPS) to determine who’d win copies… I somehow survived til the end and got the last copy.
So, I’m tired, tired, and more tired… but I had an absolute blast. Staying at the con hotel sure beats running back and forth at O’Dark-Thirty. ‘sides, it gives a nice “safehouse” to run stuff back to (and also a good place to store lots of snackage and whatnot). I will definitely have to remember it for future reference.
Anyway, signing off from ZOMG TEH HIZZOUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Or something like that.
